Selection Criteria of Implant Abutment
Jang Kyung-Soo

Kim Young-Soo
Abstract
It is very confusing and troublesome for clinicians to select adequate abutment in various clinical situations. At first, there was only one type of abutment, standard abutment, for restoring fully edentulous patients. As expanding its use of dental implant to partially edentulous or single tooth restorations with high esthetics, it has been essential to produce many kinds of abutments. Basically, abutments were classified into cemented and screw-retained types. And screw-retained abutments were more divided by their features in detail. Every abutment has its own advantages and limits, too. Considering soft tissue characteristics, occlusion, positioning of fixtures and relationships of adjacent implants or natural teeth, it is dentists¡¯ responsibility to choose the most suitable abutments for esthetic and functional rehabilitation of their poor patients.
